The filter change clock

From the FULMINARE air log

A filter fails politely. No light, no sound; the tower hums exactly as before, moving air through a cartridge that has already kept everything it can hold.

What fills it faster

Pets shed year-round, candles and incense throw fine soot, a street-facing window feeds the room a steady diet of outside. Any of these can halve the quiet months a cartridge would otherwise last. A guest room without traffic sits at the other end of the scale.

The gray-face check

Skip the calendar math and look at the thing. Unplug, open the base, pull the cartridge: a fresh face is white, a working one is dusty, a done one is evenly gray with the pleats starting to blur. That last one is not filtering much anymore, it is just standing in the way.

The swap

Two minutes, no tools. Unplug the tower, twist the bottom cap off, drop the old cartridge out, seat the new one the same way up, cap it back. Write the date on the new cartridge rim with a marker; future you will argue less with past you.

Why the genuine cartridge

The seal is the point. A cartridge a millimeter off lets air slip around the pleats instead of through them, and slipped air is unfiltered air at full fan volume. The PU-P05 cartridge comes single and in packs of two, three and four; the box count is the only difference.
